Reviews
(1-25 of 33)Vertex Makes Me Look Good & Makes My Job Easier!!
- Accuracy of tax determination to jurisdictional level
- Address Cleansing
- Report generation - easily created and understood
- Ability to create tax rule changes
- Simple Exemption Certificate record creation
- Contracted with Vertex Managed Returns for US & CA reporting
- Simplicity of managing Drivers & Mappings
- Vertex University
- Vertex Annual Exchange
- Log Files Area - Ability to search for a sales order in real time rather than pulling several files to find one sales order - this will help during live testing rather than waiting until the sales order is posted to the database.
My Vertex Experience
- Sales tax calculation on US transaction
- VAT tax calculation and validation on EMEIA and APAC region
- Supports SII reporting for Spain
- Support e-filing for the UK
- Returns and reporting
- E-invoicing solution
- Real-time reporting
- Italy's annual declaration form
Vertex - robust program with a lot of features
- Keeps up on the tax law, frequently updating they system to reflect changes.
- Vertex has great reporting capabilities that enables us to use data for trends in purchases, managing licensing requirements, and carries over into the income tax reports for apportionment requirements.
- Innovative - continually improving their processes, including feedback from customers to develop the next new tool to make tax calculation and reporting easier.
- Some of the reporting tools are only usable to those on the Cloud platform.
- A lot of the import/export/ and monthly reporting processes could be automated.
- While this is minor - the app is missing some features that would add convenience. For example, the ability to choose multiple reports to delete at once. Currently you can delete one report or all reports - but can't choose a group. You can't create groups or favorites in your profile. If I'm running reports for my US tax, I have to go through the entire list. There isn't a shortcut that allows me to only access those reports.
At this point I've not found a reason that it wouldn't be suited in a tax environment.
- Highly customizable
- In depth reporting
- Wide variety of taxability categories
- Library of support articles/information can be difficult to search through
- Customer support for issues sometimes requires follow ups
- Customization can lead to complexity
Great tax calculation tool
- Tax code determination
- Tax calculation
- Integration with billing systems
- Non deductible VAT calculation
- User interface could be clearer
- Content update
Sales tax automation.
- Integrations with APIs work well.
- Diverse tax codes in tax engine.
- Responsive customer service.
- Integrations with ERPs, some major ERPS lack integration with Vertex.
- Customizations take some time to learn and set up.
Vertex at a glance
- Rates for sales.
- Allows multiple flex fields to help correctly determine taxability.
- Updates the tax rules when the change in a state.
- A trusted vendor doesn't work the best.
- We have an issue with the tax drivers, for us, it is material groups and that isn't always taxed in the same manner across states.
- Vertex does not have the best global platform yet, needs to improve LAO, especially Brazil capability.
Vertex is best of the best!
- Great monthly updates of rates and rules and locations
- A very flexible tool for user defined decision making
- Ability to customize for specific scenarios that may be specific to our Company
- We pay Vertex compliance to put numbers on our Tax returns. Tax manager would like them to pick up our monthly files rather than him having to supply them. I'm not sure if that will ever happen, but the Tax manager said he never has to massage the data.....just gathers the Tax2000 reports and provides.
- Would like to see some of the LCR Dixon tools to become part of the standard delivered functionality now that Susi is part of Vertex now. Especially the New testing tool. I asked about this at conference, but they are still evaluating all that.
Vertex O is AWESOME!
- Report generation. We can rely on a range of reports with very detailed data to high-level summaries.
- Easy export of sales and tax data from Vertex O Series to Vertex Returns for compliance reporting.
- Ability to assign roles and levels of what users can and cannot due within Vertex O Series. Very much needed for segregation of duties and SOX compliance.
- I would like to see the communication between Vertex O and Vertex Returns and a bit more shored-up. Specifically in the Tax Area ID world. It seems like there are times where a tax area id has been retired in O but still exists in returns.
- I would like to be able to search more invoices within the Standard Invoice Detail Report. Currently, the invoice number field has a character limit that is very frustrating to work with.
- I would like for there to be a progress bar feature when running reports and/or not to have to "Refresh" to see when a report or task is complete.
- I would also like to be able to kick off a report and have Vertex O notify me when the report is done.
Tax Technology
- Validation of tax data
- Links with our ERP system well
- Testing of tax data
- Having the monthly updates automated instead of using myvertex
- Having the Help menu a little more user friendly
- Better search capabilitites
Reliable and accurate
- Accurate tax calculations
- Updated rates monthly
- Fast customer service responses
- Occasional issues with addresses calculating incorrect tax rates
- Tax assist creator could be much simpler
- Limited support for Vertex L
Why Vertex is the optimal solution for sales and use tax
- Calculation of Sales Tax
- Accurate Sales Tax Rates
- Excellent solution for Exemption Certificates
- Interface could be more user-friendly
- Updating Exemption certificates in mass (such as expiration dates) should be easier
vertex
- Keeping rates up-to-date
- Flexibility to handle all types of transactions, tax scenarios
- Reliable tax results
- When I want to use a particular feature or to learn more about a feature, it's difficult to find exact instructions - I guess I don't know how to search the various knowledge tools? Is there more than one place to look for assistance?
- Learning to fill in knowledge gaps - some things I know ad nauseum, but other things I don't know at all, such as flex fields.
Vertex - your tool for complex scenarios and a huge catalogue
- Testing transactions.
- Tax break down.
- Easy access to XMLs (input and output) of transactions.
- Some changes to become active need a refresh of the account provided by the support.
- Vertex should be more on top of tax changes, sometimes they are late on applying them in the system.
- Centralized and automated indirect tax processing.
- Importing/exporting of tax data.
- Management of consumer use tax.
- An innovative way to determine calculations, taxability, and reporting on VAT and other tax-related processes.
- The main search and the backspace does not work as intended.
- The customer support ticketing system needs some improvement for ease of use.
Customizable and full of features
- Linked to the appropriate product categorization.
- Updated tax rates.
- Integration with ERP new features not always up-to-date.
- Communication between Vertex and Oracle.
Vertex - not sexy, but built to last!
- Exemption certificate management
- Staying current with rate changes
- Staying current with legislative changes
- Vertex always wants to hear suggestions from their customers.
- Transaction data extract still requires use of a pivot table...
- UI is not intuitive and there aren’t mouseover tips, so occasionally it can be difficult to figure out how to use unexplored features.
- Would like to see more examples of how others use Vertex.
- Recently learned of the very active user community for Alteryx. Would like to see Vertex incentivize users to share tips, tricks and advice.
Vertex Connected!
- Robust calculation engine for leasing.
- Easy user interface for configurations.
- Ability to build user-defined rules and tax assist rules.
- Make it easier to write tax assist rules, maybe add some examples directly within the screens or on the fields being selected.
From My Perspective
- Vertex decides for the taxing jurisdiction for the user.
- Vertex has the ability to decide the taxability of different types of finance options.
- It would be great if O Series would have an address search engine option. Sometimes customer data comes in without the zip code and we have to use an outside search tool to pinpoint the zip code.
On its way to becoming a great product!
- Product or purchasing code mapping.
- Tax rates.
- Tax research.
- Support for Vertex Cloud is lacking.
- The sales process around determining if on-demand vs. cloud would fit a client's needs.
- Vertex Returns provided with the cloud lacks functionality when compared to the returns module used with on-premise or on-demand.
IT program management point of view
- Monthly content.
- SAP accelerators.
- Tax assist rules.
- Improved tax accuracy.
- Faster response in doing business.
- Compliance.
- Tax Engine
- Accelerator & Reporting
- Leverage Plus Tools
Less Appropriate:
- Needs better integration with VITR
Reliable and stable choice
- Calculates accurate sales and use tax based on your configuration.
- Monthly updates are easy to keep tax rules up to date.
- Continues to improve its troubleshooting tools.
- Missing an easy way to enter tax exemption certificates for reciprocal certificates. State certificates that are accepted in other jurisdictions.
- The interface for creating tax assist rules in V.8 is very clumsy and not very user-friendly. Not intuitive and very technical.
- The interface for creating reports is not user-friendly. It is very clunky and difficult to use. Particularly the filters.
The beverage industry is pleased with O Series
- The O Series does a good job keeping the rates current for multiple tax types and fees.
- The O Series has been quick to work with us on new tax legislation around soft drink taxes that get passed quickly and are implemented quickly.
- The O Series support has worked well with us on our issues that require quick correction.
- Some of the changes that were made to the qualifying conditions from the conditional rules caused us issues. We would have liked it if Vertex had continued to support the original conditional rule design but we have moved past that issue now.
- We have had to create some of our own rules to accommodate the origin rules for soft drink taxes. We had hoped vertex would have been quicker to handle those.
- We do still have issues with the return export file. The data is not always correct but we are working with support on this.
- Returns through VITR.
- Exemption Certs.
- Rates - always up to date.
- Custom Reports.
- Exports of Data.
- Rate Detail of Recommendations.
The ECM helps with the validation of certs and correct forms which helps lower the review time. We do not currently have ECM but after this conference, I'm going to try to implement in our company.
Vertex O Series Review
- Manages exemption certificates including images and different jurisdictions.
- Nexus is very easy to configure.
- User interface is easy to navigate.
- The reporting functionality is not very robust. I utilize Accelerator for most of my reporting needs.
- I would love if O Series had a document search functionality. My company previously utilized a different sales tax software and after a transaction was processed, you could go into the software front-end and search by billing document to see all the tax treatments and exemptions applied to that particular transaction.
